Tap Settings
The Tap screen sets up tap tempo over MIDI in both directions. OnSong can send a MIDI event on every beat according to the tempo set on each song, and it can take its tempo from taps sent by another device. On some MIDI equipment, this can be used to set the tempo instead of using MIDI clock, which sends 24 MIDI events per quarter note, or sending the BPM as Control Changes.
Sync Mode
Choose which way taps travel.
- Off neither sends nor follows taps. Default.
- Both sends taps and follows taps from another device.
- Lead sends a tap on every beat at the tempo of the song you’re viewing.
- Follow takes OnSong’s tempo from taps another device sends.
Lead
If you choose Both or Lead, you can configure the MIDI events that are sent using this section:
- Channels chooses the channels to send on. Choose On All Channels or one or more specific channels.
- Beat is the MIDI command sent on every beat. Type it using OnSong’s MIDI syntax, such as CC105, the default. Only the controller matters, so you don’t need to enter a value. Separate more than one command with spaces.
- Downbeat is an optional command sent on the first beat of each bar. Sending one lets the other device line up its bar, not just its tempo.
Follow
These settings control which incoming taps OnSong follows if you've selected Both or Follow:
- Channel chooses the channel to listen on, or On all channels.
- Beat is the MIDI command that counts as a tap.
- Downbeat is an optional command that marks the first beat of a bar.
These are stored as MIDI Triggers, so they also appear in the Triggers list and can be edited there. Leave a field empty to stop following it.
