Ticky-Ticky Sync Magic
This screen lets you nerd out & configure MIDI clock by decidin' whether OnSong sends it, follows it, or goes full both-ways—plus ways to make it behave like you want. Buckle up:
Sync Mode
Here's the thing: MIDI clock barfs out 24 MIDI signals per beat, which is like, a lot of digital word vomit. Only use MIDI clock on hard-wired MIDI connections, yeah? Wireless MIDI is basically a joke—too much latency lag for anything resemblin' accuracy. Pick one of these to tell OnSong how to vibe with MIDI clock:
- Off — MIDI clock can take a bleepin' nap. OnSong ignores it completely.
- Both — OnSong sends MIDI clock and listens to incoming clock like a good little synth slave.
- Lead — OnSong's the boss now. Sends a stupidly accurate MIDI clock at whatever tempo the song you're starin' at right now is rockin'.
- Follow — OnSong becomes the follower. Adopts whatever tempo some other device is sendin' in.
The Behavior & Time Adjustment sections wake up when OnSong's actually sendin' MIDI clock with Lead or Both. Plot twist!
Behavior
This decides how MIDI gets sent out into the world. Twist the stepper thingy to pick:
- Plays continuously — OnSong spams MIDI clock events 24/7 based on your current song's tempo. Switch to a song with no tempo? Oops, previous tempo keeps rollin'. This is the default because we're lazy. Default.
- Stops without tempo — MIDI clock keeps flowin' & tempo shifts as you jump between songs. BUT if a song has zero tempo, MIDI clock just… stops dead. Switch back to a song with a tempo? BOOM, it auto-starts again. Magical.
- Stops after 1-30 seconds — OnSong sends MIDI when you view a song, then ghost you after 1 to 30 seconds. No tempo on the song? Clock stops too. When you find a song with tempo? MIDI clock springs back to life like a zombie at a concert.
Time Adjustment
MIDI clock sends SO MANY MIDI events that the received tempo can drift like your attention span, dependin' on how slow your device is at processin' stuff. Adjust the MIDI clock to run faster or slower if your hardware's feelin' sluggish.
- No clock adjustment — MIDI clock events go out as-is, unfiltered & uncool. Default.
- Adjust 75%-12% slower/faster — Tweak how much slower or faster MIDI clock runs in teeny 0.5% baby steps to appease your blinky gear.
