The Bleepin' Paper Trail
The Document tab is where you go to tweak literally everything about how a song looks—low light mode, tint color, fonts, paper size, margins. Basically, it's where control freaks come to party.
Manikin' With the Goods
Tap that wrench icon in the upper left corner if you wanna mess with the global system settings for how this whole menu acts. Spoiler: it won't touch your per-song formatting. SRSLY.
Tint-a-Lot Mode
This determines what colors OnSong uses to slap your song on the screen, & can help make things less eye-melty in different lighting situations or if your eyeballs are being dramatic about visual stress. Modes shift around based on Low Light Mode. If you don't pick anything, OnSong will just vibe with the defaults like a basic beige sedan. Here's the color-coded menu:
- Paper = high contrast black & white. Very newspaper. Much readable.
- Dim = like paper but sadder, with way less contrast.
- Sepia = dim's cozy older cousin. Warm tones. Kinda vintage vibes.
- Sky = slaps a blue tint on everything to chill out your visual stress. Awww, bless.
Low Light Mode
Right next to the mode buttons is an icon where you can toggle low light mode on & off. Flip it, & it applies system-wide—including to whichever mode you picked. Changes EVERYTHING in OnSong, peeps.
Tap & hold that low light button & you get the Song Invert Mode context menu (fancy!). From there you can set low light mode specifically for this one document. It defaults to "default" (how meta) meaning the song will roll with whatever the app's doing. But if you wanna force it into dark or light mode no matter what, you can totally do that here & feel like a power user.
Font Fam
Five buttons at the top let you pick the typeface for your whole song. Y'all got options:
- Sans-Serif is like Helvetica—perfect for chord charts if you're into that sorta thing. The Default™.
- Serif is like Georgia & easier for some peeps to read, allegedly.
- Handwritten is like Marker—super skinny so you can cram more stuff on the page like a madlad.
- Monospaced is fixed-width (think Courier) & actually useful if you care about chord alignment, amirite.
- Custom shows an ellipsis button where you can browse all the fonts on your device like you're shopping for fonts (which you kinda are). Tap it & the Custom Font screen pops back up so you can pick again.
Line Spacing
Wanna fit more junk on screen? Shrink the line spacing (space between lines). Or go big & spread 'em out if your eyes are screaming. Tap the left & right icons next to all the sliders to micro-adjust like the perfectionist you are. Range: 0.7 to 1.3 lines. Default's chillin' at 1.0.
Paper
Sets the size of your virtual page, which totally messes with how big your fonts show up. Bigger paper = tinier fonts. The icons on the right let you flip between portrait & landscape orientation like a person with actual needs.
Layout
This section is where you decide how each page looks when you're using the R2 Rendering Engine. Got three controls for maximum chaos:
Pagination
Pick continuous scrolling (one endless sheet) or chop it into virtual pages. Your choice, buckaroo.
Columns
One column or two columns? Two columns = sections flow to the other half of the page like they're tryna escape.
Gutter
The space between your columns. Options: 0" to 1" in 1/16" increments because apparently we care about precision now.
Margins
Add breathing room on the edges of your virtual page so text doesn't freak out & so Hot Corners & Navigation Zones have space to exist. The icon on the right shows which margin's been tweaked: left, right, top, or bottom.
Footer
Set the footer size as a percentage of your lyrics font. There's also a button to toggle it on & off if you're indecisive.
Everything on this tab except low light mode applies to just the song you're starin' at right now. We'll get into applying changes to your whole library in a hot sec.
Wanna reset everything to default? Tap that wrench icon in the upper left to access the Style Preferences Document options & go nuclear.
